Covestro an-nounced it has broken ground in Zhuhai, China, on what will be the company’s largest thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) site, globally. The project, with an overall investment in the low three-digit million Euro range, will be built in three phases and is expected to achieve a maximum production capacity of 120 kta of TPU. The first phase, with a planned production capacity of 30 kta is scheduled to reach mechanical completion in 2025. The final phase is planned to be completed in 2033. Covestro will eventually offer products at the site that consist of at least 25% alternative, non-fossil raw materials, labeled CQ. The site will also utilize the most advanced production technologies and run on 100% renewable power.
