Ethylene Prices Drift Lower in Asia on Tuesday
Ethylene prices drifted lower in Asia. The sharp price fall was on the back of bearish regional demand trends and plentiful product availability. CFR South East Asia prices were down at USD 665 per ton. CFR North East Asia ethylene prices were assessed lower at the USD 715 per ton, a drop of USD 130 per ton from the peak in July. LG Chem Ltd has resumed production at its naphtha cracker, on August 3, 2020, The cracker was shut on July 31, 2020, owing to technical issues. Located at Daesan in South Korea, currently, the cracker has an ethylene capacity of 1.27 mta and propylene capacity of 700 kta. Formosa Petrochemical Corporation (FPCC), has shut its No.3 cracker on August 11, 2020, for a maintenance turnaround. The cracker is expected to remain off-line till the end-September, 2020. Located at Mailiao in Taiwan, the No. 3 cracker has an ethylene production capacity of 1.2 mta and propylene production capacity of 600 kta.
