Korea Petrochemical Industry Co. (KPIC) has selected Lummus Technology to provide its butadiene extraction (BDE) technology for a new BDE unit to be built as part of KPIC’s Onsan chemical plant in Ulsan, South Korea. Once complete, the BDE unit will produce 146 kta of butadiene, which will also lead to the production of more valuable products from C4 streams and generate feed for an existing olefins conversion unit. Lummus scope includes the technology license, basic engineering and training services. KPIC will benefit from the technology’s low operating, maintenance and investment costs.
