Kumho and Technip Energies Sign MoU To Produce RSM Using Agilyx Process

Kumho Petrochemical and Technip Energies have entered into a MoU to produce recycled styrene monomer (RSM) using the patented Agilyx conversion tech-nology in South Korea. The MoU, which follows a previous announcement of an RSM project utilizing Agilyx technology, outlines a cooperative relationship between Kumho and Technip working toward successful licensing of Agilyx technology by Technip and the construction of an RSM production plant. Commercial production is planned to begin in 2026. RSM is obtained from pyrolysis of waste polystyrene and can be used as a direct replacement for styrene produced from traditional fossil-based sources.  Kumho is expected to use the RSM in the production of solution styrene butadiene rubber (SSBR). Technip will provide support in all tasks including the transfer of a technology license to Kumho.
