PP Plant unplan shutdown in Thailand
HMC Polymers has shut its PP plant for an unplanned outage. The plant was shut in second week of October owing to technical issues at its upstream unit. They are expected to resume production in second half of October 2015. HMC polymer joint venture partner is the Netherlands-based company Lyondell Basell that is the world’s third largest chemical company and the largest manufacturer of polyolefin. After obtaining Thailand Board of Investment promotional privileges, HMC Polymers commissioned its first production line in October 1989 in the newly formed Map Ta Phut Industrial Complex. PTT became a shareholder of HMC Polymers in 2006. Since the commencement of polypropylene production in 1989, the company has continued to expand and modernize its facilities. Today it has the most modern technology in Thailand and with an operating capacity of 750kt, is one of largest and most advanced facilities in Asia.
