Sinopec Qilu Petrochemicals has shut its naphtha cracker due to fire accident which operates a petrochemical complex near Zibo in Shandong province of China. The total refining capacity of the petrochemical major is pegged at 10.5 mta with an ethylene production capacity of 800 kta, polyethylene (PE) production capacity of 1.1 mta, Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and caustic soda production capacity of 450 kta each, Vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) production capacity of 630 kta and synthetic rubber production capacity of 300 kta. Qilu Petrochemical has reportedly taken the entire complex in Shandong, China offline after a fire hit the naphtha cracker on-site on 23 December 2023. The incident did not have any direct impact on the downstream productions, which disrupted feed supply. Initial assessment showed the company might take up to 30 days to bring the cracker online.
