Tosoh Begins Building Unit to Convert Recovered CO2 into Isocyanate Feed
Tosoh recently began construction on a new facility to recover carbon dioxide (CO2) from its operations at its Nanyo complex in Japan and convert the CO2 into feedstock for the production of isocyanate products, including methylene diphenyl diisocyanate. The CO2 and feedstock conversion facility, located in Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, will recover around 40 kta of CO2. Start-up is scheduled for fall 2024. Since last summer, the company has been evaluating a proprietary and highly durable amine agent to recover CO2 at a test facility. The company plans to apply that agent at its commercial-scale facilities to reduce their CO2 emissions by capturing and converting the by-product CO2 for use in their operations. Tosoh also intends to sell the CO2 recovery amine agent.
