Packaging company Winpak invests USD 40M in Winnipeg plant expansion

Winpak Ltd. is upgrading a Winnipeg production plant with a USD 40 million expansion project, boosting its output of biaxially oriented polyamide, or BOPA film, at its majority-owned subsidiary, American Biaxis Inc. The film is widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Winpak currently produces 11 kta of BOPA each year at American Biaxis. The expansion includes work on both the currently facility and the purchase of new equipment. The Canadian packaging company, which makes packing materials as well as related packaging machines, says the investment will boost the plant’s capacity to 14 kta of BOPA. The project is expected to be completed in the second half of 2019.
