PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) has to shut its gas-separation unit #5 (GSP5) in Map Ta Phut due to damage done by a lightning strike on Aug.15. The plant is likely to be down for 3-5 months for repairs. The GSP5 supplies 25% of Thailand’s overall LPG production capacity (300 kta), and is the gas supplier of PTTGC’s I4-2 plant (with ethylene production capacity of 450 kta). As such, olefin derivative prices such as PE and PP are likely to rise in the near term.
