China's Changzhou Dohow shuts SM line on ethylene shortage

China's Changzhou Dohow Chemical shut its 300 kta No. 2 styrene monomer line in eastern Jiangsu province due to a shortage of feedstock ethylene. The producer, a subsidiary of the New Solar group, operates three SM lines at Changzhou: an older line with 210 kta of capacity, a 250 kta No. 1 line and the 300 kta No. 2 line. The shutdown was not directly related to a collision involving two vessels at the adjacent Changzhou Huarun petrochemical terminal on July 9, which caused damage to the producer's ethylene pipeline. However, due to the subsequent slowdown in delivery of feedstock ethylene, Changzhou Dohow's other two SM lines have been running at reduced rates of around 70% of capacity since the accident.
