JM Announces Successful Commissioning Of Largest Single Train Methanol Unit
Johnson Matthey (JM) announced the successful start-up of all three methanol production trains of Inner Mongolia Baofeng Coal-Based New Materials Co. in China, making the facility the largest single-train methanol plant in the world. Located in the Wushenqi Sulige Economic Development Zone of Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous region, the 7,200-tpd plant employs JM’s advanced methanol synthesis technology. The methanol facility uses syngas as feedstock, combined with advanced catalysts, to produce stable, high-quality methanol, which is then used for olefin production. JM was awarded the contract in 2020, which includ-ed process licensing for three methanol synthesis units, process design, technical review, commissioning sup-port, and the supply of catalyst. Inner Mongolia Baofeng Coal-Based New Materials is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ningxia Baofeng Energy Group.
