Bridgestone Plans Pilot Demo Unit For the Precise Pyrolysis of ELTs
Bridgestone announced plans to build a pilot demonstration plant for precise pyrolysis of end-of-life tires (ELTs) at its facility in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. The 7.5 kta ELT unit, on which construction is expected to start in November 2025, will demonstrate the technology needed for establishing and optimizing precise pyrolysis of ELTs, which involves obtaining tire-derived oil and recovered carbon black from ELTs. Start-up is scheduled in September 2027. The company aims to establish scale-up technologies for mass production of tire-derived oil and recovered carbon black by applying stable and continuous operational processes and quality management. Bridgestone will also further promote knowledge creation for plant operations and talent development with expertise in chemical recycling.
